The DRC does not rent its rowing shells. Access to club boats is reserved for our members as part of their membership.
Taking a session in the Learn-to-Row program is the correct place to start when you have little or no rowing experience. The LTR program introduces you to the sport of rowing and provides instruction on the technical side of the stroke.
Yes, training and rowing does continue during the winter months. Typically at the Don Rowing Club, we are on the water April through to the end of October. From November through to the end of March we train indoors making use of the indoor rowing tank, rowing machines (ergometers or “ergs”) and weight room.
If you have previously taken a Learn-to-Row session or are an experienced rower, please email Membership and let them know of your experience. An assessment with one of our certified coaches will then be scheduled to determine your level. The appropriate entry way into the club will be discussed with you, aligning with your interest and goals.
Once youths have completed two weeks of the DRC Youth Summer Camp, they are ready to continue rowing with the Junior Development program.
After adults have completed a Learn-to-Row session, they can continue to improve their skills during a 2-week Development clinic before joining the Club program.
Although the chances of tipping a boat are slim, all participants and members of the club must be able to swim 50 meters without difficulty. If you are not a strong swimmer and are unsure of your swimming ability, we recommend that you schedule a test at a local swimming pool.
Yes, our U23 Summer Competitive program is the correct program to join if you wish to continue to row and compete during your summer break from university.
We have welcomed experienced rowers from Europe, the United States and all across Canada. If you would like to join one of our programs for one-off practices, please contact Membership through the Contact page. We appreciate donations in lieu of guest fees.
