2021 Learn To Row Programs

2021 Registration Now Open!!!

Our Youth rowing camps are open to youth aged 12 to 17. This is an excellent introduction to the sport of rowing! Participants will work on developing their balance, confidence, flexibility, and strength along with teamwork and leadership skills. Our camps operate in a safe and fun environment created by our Camp Coaches and volunteers.

The Don Rowing Club has responded to the COVID-19 global pandemic by following the Province of Ontario and the City of Mississauga Public Health Guidance on Day Camps. We will be implementing the guidelines set forth by adapting our camp outline. Youth participants will be rowing in single shells and learning the basics of sculling (two oars) which allows for physical distancing. Our Youth camper parents will be required to confirm a personal health assessment on behalf of their children each morning prior to joining the camp for that day. The questionnaire will include the approved Peel Public Health questions such as having any symptoms of COVID-19. Anyone displaying symptoms will be asked to remain home.

We will also work with ergs on the terrace.

Some Things to Know

Safety: The Lead Program Coaches are RCA certified. Camp coaches and volunteers are trained, certified, and experienced and have First Aid certificate, Pleasure Craft Licence, and Police Record (vulnerable sector) Check. Youth campers will be accompanied on the water by coaches in a motorized coach boat which will have all safety equipment on board including life jackets.

Coach to Youth Camper Ratio: Each session will be 3 groups of 7 Youth campers (up to 21 in total/COVID rules depending), supervised by our Camp Director and 1 to 2 coaches per group plus 3 volunteers (Experienced Junior Rowers); 1 Coaches to 5 Campers.

Campers must know how to swim.

What to bring everyday:

A lunch (tree nut free)

Safety kit: mask/hand sanitizer/water bottle within a ziplock bag/sunscreen/hat/life jacket

A sense of adventure

Rescheduling

Up to a week before the start of your session, there is no charge for date changes. For example, for a camp session starting on July 20th, you have until the end of the day of July 10th to request the change.

Less than one week before, and through the last day before the start of your session, changing the date requires a $50 Move Fee. For example, for a camp session starting on July 15th, you have until the end of the day of July 14th. The Move Fee will be waived if there are campers on the waiting list.

Regrettably, we cannot accommodate rescheduling requests after the day before the camp starts, that is, as of 00:01 am the morning of the first day. See our cancellation policy below for details.

We cannot guarantee to be able to accommodate any date changes. Most of our camps book early

Cancellation

Full Refund will be given if camp will be cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

Up to a week before the start of your session, cancellations are subject to a $35 Refund Fee. For example, for a camp session starting on July 20th, you have until the end of the day of July 10th to cancel.

No refunds will be given with less than a week before the start of your session.

“The Don Rowing Club’s Youth summer camp is a great way to be introduced to rowing. As a former Don RC Youth summer camper and current junior rower I can say with certainty that the staff are dedicated in not only teaching you the basics but maintaining a safe and fun environment while doing it. The camp introduces teens who are often looking to branch out from their sport of choice to a late entry sport that offers many future opportunities to its athletes, you really ought to give it a try!”
